Jahrhundert war die Region auch durch die Veränderungen im städtischen und landwirtschaftlichen Leben geprägt. Die historische Entwicklung der Gemeinde Boren, die 1974 die Gemeinden Ketelsby und Lindau einbezog, spiegelt die langjährige Entwicklung der Region wider. Die Schlei als natürlicher Grenz- und Verkehrsraum spielte eine zentrale Rolle in der regionalen Geschichte, was auch durch die Erhaltung historischer Gebäude und archäologischer Funde belegt ist.
